Area golfer doing well in tournament

Notre Dame junior Alex Carl is currently third at Stonecreek, a Calloway PGA series tournament in Urbana, Illinois this week. I just spoke with Carl by cell phone as she was waiting out the rain.

She shot 77 on Tuesday and hopes to complete the tournament today or Thursday. She is competing in the 13-15 age group.

Carl was the regional runner-up last season for Notre Dame and was tied for 19th at state. The Pandas won their third consective regional title.

"I am expecting a lot out of us," Carl told me. "I am really looking forward to the season; we have some good incoming freshmen."

Skyline Crosstown Showdown

Is there a better way to start a high school football season than with the Skyline Chili Crosstown Showdown?

This year’s event will be the biggest to date with ten games in 4 days as the event celebrates its tenth year.

All of the action gets started with a double header at Princeton High School’s Viking Stadium on Wednesday, August 22nd and will be followed the next night with a double header at the same location.

The excitement rolls on as the venue moves to Miami University's Yeager Stadium on Friday night with two games.

The Showdown will wrap up with four games at University of Cincinnati’s Nippert Stadium on Saturday, August 25.

Skyline’s Crosstown Showdown has grown from a couple of double headers in 1998 to this season where 40 of the areas top football teams have participated since the event began.
