Basketball Coaches Raise Funds For Cancer
The Lakota East boy’s basketball coaching staff recently raised funds for the "Coaches vs. Cancer" program.
Since the program began in 1993, more than 500 basketball coaches across the country have raised nearly $40 million dollars to help fight cancer and provide hope to those facing the disease. Coaches vs. Cancer is a nationwide collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches.
Proceeds from a t-shirt sale at an East home basketball game and support from Youthland Academy and Camp JB MAC helped East coaches raise over $600 for the program. To help promote awareness and encourage others to "lace up their sneakers" for the fight against cancer, East coaches wore gyms shoes with their suits at a recent home game against Middletown.
"Coaches vs. Cancer is a powerful way for our staff to be a part of the fight against cancer," said East head coach Wally Vickers. "If we continue working together, the end of this horrible disease may just be within our reach."
