St. Xavier or Colerain?

The ongoing question is whether St. Xavier or Colerain is the better football team at this point of the season. Yes, we're only in Week 7, but the look ahead toward the postseason is tempting.

St. X has had more national attention - and is ranked higher in most national polls. The Bombers have defeated top competition, including DeMatha (Md.), Louisville Trinity and Cleveland Glenville, not to mention a shut out of Elder last week.

But, Colerain is also nationally ranked. The Cardinals defeated Hoover (Ala.) 20-17 in overtime earlier this year and have been breezed through their schedule the past few weeks.

Also remember Colerain defeated the Bombers in the regional final last season at Nippert Stadium.

St. X hosts La Salle this Friday. The Bombers are 10-0 in GCL-South games over the past few seasons.

Colerain has won 25 consecutive regular-season games and over 50 GMC games. The Cardinals host Lakota West on Friday and will certainly be the favorites.

So I ask, which team would win the St. X-Colerain game if it were played this week? Feel free to leave your thoughts here.

I'd have to give the edge to St. X at this point primarily because of strength of schedule. The Bombers have played a much tougher schedule than Colerain, it's probably the toughest in the state...maybe even country! Regardless, it looks like they will be able to settle the debate on the field because it appears they are headed for a third straight battle in a regional title match-up, barring a major upset along the way.

Ed,

I couldn't agree with you more. St.X has been battle tested all year long with each game equal to a state playoff game.

The GMC is pretty weak this year and a lot of Colerain's competition has been less than competitive.
