Highlands girls' soccer still No. 1

Despite a loss last week for the first time since Sept. 2006, the Highlands girls' soccer team remained No. 1 in this week's state coaches' poll.

The Bluebirds (10 first-place votes) are 11-1-3 at the start of the week. Newport Central Catholic (13-1-1) is third and had five first-place votes.

Notre Dame (8-3-4) is sixth.

• Ryle and Covington Catholic qualified for the state boys' golf tournament by finishing first and second in the Eighth Region tournament Monday at Boone Links. Highlands won the Ninth region at AJ Jolly.
