St. Ursula soccer ready to go

St. Ursula soccer coach Dave Ruehl is looking forward to his first season as the Bulldogs' new coach. Ruehl, a former Elder coach, went 80-68-31 in 10 seasons as the varsity coach with the Panthers.

St. Ursula, which lost to Sycamore in the district final last year, returns a number of highly skilled players. The Bulldogs have been to the Division I state semifinals four of the past six seasons.

Early college commitments include senior midfielder Tori Huster (Florida State), senior midfielder Lindsey Frey (College of Charleston) and senior forward Casey Mercurio (DePaul).

"I am not going to treat the girls any differently than the guys, but I think we can play a similar style and we can play fast," Ruehl said.

Several area coaches respect Ruehl and believe he will do well at St. Ursula.

"He’s going to do a great job," Anderson coach Bil Miller said. "He’s a proven winner."
